Introduction

Here, I'll tell you a little more about this course and how to use this course. There's a lot of very useful material which will totally transform your understanding and perception of shibari. Don't under estimate the importance of the little things as it is all about how you do it, not learning just the next new tie or even what style you follow.

Before you start, take a proper look at Bondage Safety so you can minimise risk of injury. Much is common sense but there are a few traps for the unwary. Absorb the main points. Equally important is ensuring what you are doing is 100% consensual and both parties have the same understanding of what to expect. Again, we have a tutorial to help you get it right.

As everything is based on a few simple techniques, master these before rushing ahead. Every variation of the single column tie and the use of frictions should be committed to muscle memory. They will allow you to build on rock-solid foundations which will allow you to concentrate on how to express yourself through the rope. Too many students become, what I call, 'knot-focused', i.e. they are so engrossed with the knots and complexity of a tie that they are (k)not-focused on their partner. By not over-complicating things and making the mechanical aspects second nature, all your attention can be devoted to your partner.

We'll show you exercises to develop muscle memory so your tying becomes expressive and second nature. Don't worry if you don't have an ever-patient partner to hand 24/7, as we show you a lot of other ways to hone your skills.

We suggest that you watch all the tutorials before you start tying if you can possibly resist the temptation. The bundled 'Tying techniques' series originally stood alone but we created this course to extend it whilst making it more accessible for beginners. If you absolutely can't wait, start with the main content of 'Shibari: The easy way' but try to cross-reference with the appropriate part of the series.

Have fun, be safe and don't be afraid to ask questions in the Q&A forum at the end of this course.
