Osada Steve: Choker ties
Simple, sadistic semenawa (責め縄 tormenting rope) choker ties for advanced edge playersWatch Promo
These ties, by Osada Steve, are an excellent demonstration of how kinbaku is all about how you tie rather than the tie itself. There is a wealth of nuances to be learned, particularly if you pay attention to the interaction and how the rope is used, rather than the patterns themselves. Steve, as you will see from his bio, has around 30 years experience in Japan and studied with the late Yukimura Haruki, the grand-master of newaza (floor work).
The tutorials cover advanced semenawa (torment/torture rope) ties for fans of breath-control. These are not a beginner's ties! Keep your safety shears handy and your wits about you. As you'll see, they can be extremely effective. This is both a tutorial and a demonstration of the devastating effect of rope, applied powerfully with calculated connection and sadism.
The first videos show a simple one-rope version. This is then used as the foundation of a progression with a second rope, with a little free-style play on top to complete the session. The value is not just in learning the ties but also in seeing how they are used in a practical manner; this is especially so since there are two models with different dynamics. The magic is not in the ties themselves but in how you use the rope and interact.
Shibari is 90% emotional.
The other half is technical.
Coming to Japan : 1980 –
